New technology will solve the problem of image processing on the Internet
(press1: iBOT) - The Swedish company Scalado AB has developed a technology that is claimed to solve one of the most significant problems associated with the transfer of images via modems or the mobile Internet, i.e. the limited bandwidth capacity. The company has applied for a patent for a method of transferring and editing digital images for interactive visualisation. The first product, ImageZoom, is being presented at the Internet World Berlin trade fair in Berlin, Germany.

It should be possible to use ImageZoom for the presentation of images on the Internet and in various applications in the field of mobile data transmission. It is claimed that the technology works just as well when used via a modem/broadband as with a mobile telephone or handheld computer.

The Editor makes it possible to zoom in and inspect images from the Internet in detail in several dimensions. The solution encompasses connection to a database for simple data processing. The bandwidth that is available for mobile units is currently a factor limiting the rate of development. The system is therefore based on minimising both the amount of data being sent from the web server as well as the area on the actual screen. Still images are converted into interactive images for e.g. dynamic interactive manuals and presentations, positioning services, etc.

Scalado is based in the IDEON science park in Lund, southern Sweden, and its business concept involves developing software and methods for the simple creation and presentation of images on the traditional and the mobile Internet as well as for handheld computers.
