Starting bell for the 1st German IPTV Award - IPTV technology to be promoted in Germany

(press1) - June 5th, 2007: Today is the starting bell for the 1st German IPTV Award. The competition has been organised by TeleClix GmbH and the Technical College of Berlin within the context of the promotional programme "Innovation Forums Enterprise Region" sponsored by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research.

Partners include Arvato Mobile GmbH, Goldmedia, I-D Media AG, MME Moviement Group, Nacmar GmbH and PricewaterhouseCoopers. The award is being supported by the Verband der deutschen Internetwirtschaft e.V. eco as well as the Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg. Media partner are the trade publication Horizont and iBusiness as well as TV Movie and the media service provider press1.de.

The application period for IPTV productions begins today. Works can be submitted online at http://www.forum-iptv.org. Here, applicants will also find a full range of information on the competition as well as the eligibility requirements.

The 1st German IPTV Award will be granted in five categories. These are:

  • Promising business models
  • Outstanding creativity / outstanding design
  • Exciting content
  • Innovative technology
  • International applications

Agencies, service providers, contractors and students have time to submit their work until the application deadline on 30 July in the areas of webTV applications, set top box-driven IPTV (STB IPTV) and mobile IPTV (UMTS, etc.).

To ensure a high level of competitive quality, a handpicked jury has been assembled, including well-known experts from the worlds of academia, industry and media as well as the agency scene.

The 1st German IPTV Award is being promoted to encourage several objectives:
  • To produce a strong incentive for the national IPTV media economy
  • To promote creative potential in Germany, particularly within small and medium-size companies, and to encourage realisation - also in the form of prototypes or business models
  • To present current projects to the public and, above all, to the worlds of finance, venture capital and general commerce in Germany

  • To promote networking activity between the participants
  • To initiate co-operations between research and commerce in the IPTV sector.

Participation in the 1st German IPTV Award is free of charge for all entrants. In addition to the distinction of becoming the winner of the 1st German IPTV Award, non-cash prizes valued at EUR 45,000 will be distributed.
