Synchronica plc
SyncML-based synchronization and OTA device management

Synchronica plc is an international company headquartered in the UK and listed on the London Stock Exchange [AIM: SYNC]. Synchronica develops and markets synchronization and device management solutions for mobile operators, device manufacturers and enterprises. The company has 80 employees based in offices in UK, Berlin and Washington D.C.

Synchronicas product portfolio ranges from data synchronization (OMA DS) to device management (OMA DM) and firmware update over-the-air (FOTA). Synchronica has a strong track record in the SyncML space defined by the Open Mobile Alliance, in addition to proven experience in the Windows Mobile space. Products include the world's first live installation of a carrier-grade SyncML DM server and SyncML Gateway, which enables seamless synchronization of corporate data. Its latest offering, Mobile Manager, provides operators and enterprises with a robust mobile device management solution for Windows Mobile devices.

Products:

Mobile Manager -- For the enterprise device management (EDM) market, Synchronica is launching Mobile Manager 1.0, the first application developed for over-the-air (OTA) management of Windows Mobile devices that has been specifically designed for businesses requiring a self-care facility. Mobile Manager enables corporates to roll out and remotely manage a fleet of Smartphones, while minimizing set-up and maintenance costs and removing security concerns. IT managers can remotely install or configure applications, query data held on devices and wipe or lock lost or stolen devices. Mobile Manager can be installed behind the corporate firewall or offered as a hosted solution by mobile operators or service providers. Mobile Manager is currently deployed by a leading UK retailer, managing a fleet of several hundred Smartphones.

SyncML Gateway provides enterprises and operators with a cost-effective and industry standard alternative (OMA DS) to a BlackBerry, by delivering mobile synchronization of calendar, contacts and email to SyncML-compliant devices. These devices include feature phones, representing more than eighty per cent of mobile phones in use today. The SyncML Gateway provides improved security by enabling enterprises to synchronize calendar, contacts and emails without requiring any change to the corporate firewall. SyncML Gateway has a zero footprint architecture, requiring no software to be installed behind the corporate firewall or device, as long as it is SyncML compliant.

At 3GSM 2006 Synchronica has launched SyncML Gateway 2.1 with push email and support for Sun JES (Java Enterprise Server), in addition to current Microsoft Exchange support. Synchronica is currently the only SyncML synchronization solution vendor to support the Sun JES platform. SyncML Gateway is offered to Synchronica resellers and hosted Exchange providers as well as enterprises and mobile operators. SyncML Gateway is in live operation at SETAR NV, a leading mobile operator in the Caribbean.

SyncML DM Server -- Synchronica delivered the world's first carrier grade live deployment of SyncML DM (Device Management) Server, rolled out by a leading European device manufacturer in 2004. This device management product offers substantial reductions in customer service costs through automated device diagnosis and repair, including firmware over-the-air (FOTA) updates. It addresses the growing complexity of device management for operators that are introducing services such as MMS, IM, email and TV. New services and faulty device software can create configuration issues for end users and even lead to device recalls, increasing customer support costs and adversely impacting operator revenues. Synchronica SyncML DM Server 2.1 provides operators and device manufacturers with an automated hotline for OTA device diagnosis and repair, representing a radically new approach to reducing the spiralling customer care costs.

ROM Builder -- The development and customization of Smartphones involves multiple parties working collaboratively across different global territories and time zones. This can add significant delays to the development of new Smartphones. Synchronica has developed a web-based software solution for device manufacturers to reduce the time to market for Smartphones by streamlining and automating the device customization process. ROM Builder is live with a leading U.S. device manufacturer, where it is used to customize new devices based on the Windows Mobile operating system.

Company Management:

Carsten Brinkschulte, CEO and founder of Synchronica GmbH has more than 15 years experience in the client / server synchronization and device management space and combines technical prowess with strong business acumen. Synchronica is an active member of the Open Mobile Alliance (OMA) and Brinkschulte was instrumental in the development of the SyncML standard. He also developed and deployed the first SyncML synchronization server in an operator environment in 2001. Brinkschulte was appointed CEO of Synchronica in October 2005.

Partnerships:

Synchronica sells direct to enterprise and has an OEM partnership with SmartTrust for its device management and synchronization products. Other routes to market include resellers and the Synchronica Webshop, which provides a direct channel to SMBs purchasing the SyncML Gateway. Synchronica is a Microsoft Gold Partner and maintains excellent relationships with Sun Microsystems.
